Local Offer: Manchester Travel Training Partnership

Manchester City Council through a partnership between their Transport Co-ordination unit and Lancasterian school offer transport training to all students with special needs who are successfully granted transport assistance.

Travel training is designed to help young people with special needs to get more from life by giving them the skills and confidence to travel independently using public transport.

The Manchester Travel Training Partnership uses a one to one training package tailored to the individuals needs to teach the young people how to travel safely between their home and place of education.  This package includes:

• Road Safety
• Journey planning
• How to access public transport
• Learning routes and Landmarks
• What to do in an emergency
• How to keep yourself safe

All the travel trainers have enhanced DBS clearance and relevant training for the job.
